Frustrated Flowers

Today I have decided to post a couple tracks off the Clone Records offshoot, Frustrated Flowers. If you are not familiar, Clone is an accomplished techno/electro collective out of the Netherlands. This sub-label features artists who stick with a mid-nineties Detroit percussive techno sound chocked full of ethereal synths and pads. Reminiscent of early Planet E and Transmat . It's a small label with only five records released to date, but everyone is pure quality.

Holy Boner! It's a Weekend Bonus!

Everyone seemed to love the Davina track I posted awhile ago, so I've decided to post another pearl from 1993 that utilizes subtle samples from James Brown and The Eurthymics. Enjoy:

Shout out to the old-school souljah Ryan Gilchrist, who will be in town next weekend from San Fran. Hopefully no one will be arrested. Can't wait to see ya, bro.

Titonton Duvanté

I remember seeing Titonton Duvanté spin for the first time at an event in 1999 called "Welcome to My House 1", The first of a series of massive annual raves in Detroit. But it wasn't until I saw his live PA at DEMF 2001 that he really blew me away. His rocking percussive analog beats blend magically with pulsating synths to take you on a musical journey where scarecrows pop-n-lock down the yellowbrick road. He's from Colmubus Ohio and he has releases on Metamorphic Recordings, Environ, 2000 Black, 7th City, and Residual Recordings.

Check out his website here

Delsin, Isn't That Some Kind of Drug?

Sorry for the hold-up. I've been trying to upload a DJ set by Terrence Parker recorded at last year's Fuse-in Festival for the last few days. But after trying to upload it on several sites and changing formats many times, it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I'll try again later, but no promises. Today I'm featuring an excellent label out of Holland that loves to keep it "Detroit". Amsterdam's Delsin Records have been producing records since 1997 and have over fifty releases under their belt. I can't think of a single record they've put out that hasn't been worth buying. Their roster is full over under appreciated talent like Dimension 5, Newworldaquarium, Aardvarck, $tinkworx, Dynarec, and Deepart. So I offer up a DJ Set by Quince that features unreleased and forthcoming tracks from Delsin, plus a couple of my personal favorites off the label.

Check out Planet Delsin here.

Miles Maeda's Sunflower

This is a old mixtape that I use to listen to a lot back in the day. I found it a week ago and I can't stop listening to it. Miles Maeda's navigation through deep house is nothing short of breathtaking. Miles has been around for awhile. Making a name for himself in Chicago's rave scene throughout the nineties, he helped develop a downtempo/ambient night called "Atmospheric Audio Chair" from 93-95. Along with spinning at what seemed like every party in Chi-Town he managed to release a handful of records on classic labels like Dust Traxx and Seista. Currently by day Maeda works as a Yoga Instructor meanwhile at night he holds down a residency, seven years and counting, at Chicago's Smartbar.

Set tha 303 on Fi Ya!

Inspired by last weeks tribute to acid over at Dilated Choonz (check it out if you haven't already), I've decided to post some of my favorite old school Chi-town Acid choonz:

Phortune - Unity (Jack Trax 1988)

Phuture - Your Only Friend (Trax Records 1988)

Adonis - H.O.U.S.E. (Acid Mix) (Black Market International 1988)

Virgo - My Space (Trax Records 1986)

James 'Jack Rabbit' Martin - Rabbit Trax 1 (Yoton Records 1988)

Wednesday, July 05, 2006

Just relaxing after a day/night of drinking for the Forth of July. I could insert some kind of radical political rhetoric in connection with the holiday, but I'll spare you. Instead I'm just going to post some breezy techno stuff, while I smoke this hangover off:

Sun Electric - Monolith 1995 (I fixed the link)

Max Loderbauer and Tom Thiel started recording as Sun Electric for such labels as Tresor and R & S Records in the early nineties. I really dig the moody analog vibe of this track. This is from my favorite period of German techno when Tresor was King and labels like Basic Channel and Chain Reaction were just pushing their way up the ranks.

K. Hand - Mystery 1993

From the mistress of Detroit techno, Kelli Hand, comes a piece of excellent old-school heaviness off another Tresor Comp.

Q-Moog - All My Love 1996

A little known release from this New York to Detroit transplant off of the Belgian record label SSR. This whole album, which is entitled The Arc Of Blueness, is full of jazzy trip-hop and ambient house brilliancy!

It's a Lovelee Dae and The Sun is Shining

Woke up this morning, I've got a few days off work, the sun is shining and the sky is clear blue. Here's a batch of tunes that reflect that mood:

Andres - Piece of Mind 1997

Excellent stuff under Dj Dez's moniker Andrés from Moodymann's KDJ Records

Isaac Hayes - I Can't Turn Around (Ron Hardy Re-edit) 1980's

Everyone loved the first Ron Hardy posting so I put up this re-edit he did on a reel to reel for your enjoyment.

Rick Wade - Angry Pimp 1997

From Detroit house head Rick Wade off an ep of the same name on Harmonie Park

Kerrier District - Disclix 2004

I know, I know. This song has track has knothing to do with Detroit or Chicago, but it's a great piece of sunshine from Luke Vibert's, Metro Area/Envron Record-inspired, Kerrier District project.

Dwayne Jensen - My People 2002

Last one today is from Another man high up in the ranks in the Detroit house/techno scene, Dwayne Jensen. This one's off the Detroit Beatdown (Volume One) compilation on Third Ear Recordings.

I'm almost finished with this month's installment of aQUADIO which will be up on the 15th. This months mix is full of great trax and will be faster paced than last month.
